Less than a year after bagging acclaim for his Emma Stone starrer Easy A (2010), writer-director Will Gluck, 39, has another hit film in his kitty with Friends With Benefits (2011), a romcom about two friends who explore the fun and perils of sex sans commitment.

Actors Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis heat up the silver screen in the movie that released in India last Friday. Gluck says there is nothing vulgar about the plot of the film. “The thing about sex is there is no talk. So I kind of tried making it sound like sport and like baking a cake. And there is nothing sexual about it. It’s all mathematics. It’s kind of funny,”

Gluck told us in an exclusive interview during the promotion of the flick in Mexico. “I never wanted to make it icky. I never wanted to make it pornographic. I just wanted to make it fun,” added the director, as the movie has been getting rave reviews for its contemporary subject in the West.

Clearly, romantic comedies are his strong point to which he says, “The way I would deal with my life when bad things happen is through comedy and I so I try doing that in the movies too,” adding, “I like doing comedies but I like emotional stuff too. But the balance is so tricky. I’m developing some and I’ll do serious stuff too but there will always be some comedic stuff in my movies, with an emotional side though.”

When we commended him for the speed with which he speaks, Gluck jokingly said he woudn’t mind getting rewarded for it.
