Skyfall had no problems besting the record previously set by the last chapter of the Harry Potter saga, which had earned £35.7M after its first week of screening in the UK. The latest Bond flick has managed to pull it off in spite of its cheaper tickets, since its opponent was released in 3D.

The Sam Mendes spy movie also broke the box office record for a Saturday screening in the UK and set the record for best opening weekend for a James Bond film (the saga totals 23 movies).

Skyfall is heading to theaters across the pond on November 9.
