Solo: A Star Wars Story is the origin story of Han Solo, one of the Star Wars universe’s most beloved characters. He was played by Harrison Ford in the original trilogy. Watch the long-awaited first trailer here.hollywood Updated: Feb 05, 2018 10:38 IST
Finally, after months of speculation and controversy, the first trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story was released during the Super Bowl on Monday morning. Prior to this 45-second spot (30 seconds during the Super Bowl cost $5 million, or Rs 32 crore), no publicity material had been shown from the film -- no poster, no teaser, not even an image. This was particularly worrying for the fans since the movie is due out in three months.
The film’s production has been controversial. Original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired off the project due to creative differences. They were replaced by Ron Howard, director of Apollo 13, The Da Vinci Code and other blockbusters, who was rumoured to have re-shot up to 80% of the film.
The trailer we’ve got now -- it will be followed with a longer one due out on Tuesday -- is more in line with the new Star Wars movies, particularly Rogue One, which was another spinoff. It looks like a period movie, complete with all the imagery fans would want. We see glimpses of the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo’s spaceship, we see his friend Lando Calrissian, and towards the end, we even see Chewbacca, Solo’s partner-in-crime.
The film is the origin story of Han Solo, one of the Star Wars universe’s most beloved characters. He was played by Harrison Ford in the original trilogy, and in 2015’s The Force Awakens. Stepping into Ford’s shoes is Alden Ehrenreich, whose face we only catch a quick glimpse of right at the end.
The movie also stars Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson and Paul Bettany. Solo is scheduled for a May 25 release.
