Having begun his career with Kevin Reynolds' 2002 adaptation The Count of Monte Cristo, Cavill got maximum recognition when he starred in hit TV series The Tudors. The success led to his getting shortlisted for hit franchises including Harry Potter, Twilight and James Bond but he didn't make the cut.
When James Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli were searching for the next 007, they reportedly had to choose between Cavill and Daniel Craig. The latter eventually scored because Cavill apparently looked too young. "I came very close," Cavill told EW back in 2011.Ironically, the Man of Steel star reportedly lost out on the hugely successful role of Edward Cullen because for this role he looked too old. Interestingly, it was the Twilight author Stephanie Meyer who had envisioned him in the role. And even wrote on her site, "The most disappointing thing for me is losing my perfect Edward. Henry Cavill is now twenty-four-years-old. Let us have a moment of quiet in which to mourn..."
Cavill is not worried that he will become a sex symbol post the release of Man of Steel.
"After the film, I will never accept that I am a sex symbol. I will remove the tag because that will make me someone who is a bit fond of himself. If it happens, I think it is going to be very odd certainly. I think I am just Henry and I'm telling a story," he says.
It was also reported that the actor is in talks to play Christian Grey in movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey but the actor has denied the rumours.
"As there's no script, I've had no meetings. As far as I know, there's no director either. So, I just don't know," added Cavill.
