Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to release in 2019.

When producer Kevin Feige first mentioned the possibility of seeing the Avengers on screen together, not a single Marvel movie had been released. It was 2006, and the news was met with trepidation. “I think having that possibility on the horizon is something that excites all of us,” said Feige.

Now, more than a decade (and 15 films) later, a new featurette teases the arrival of Avengers: Infinity War, expected to release in theatres in 2019.

“These next two Avengers films will be an event like no one has seen on film before,” says Joe Russo, who is co-directing with his brother Anthony. The Russos also made Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War for Marvel.

“It is a very human story, even with all this spectacle, even with all these players involved,” Feige says. “There is a simplicity of story we’re leaning into. This is the team that is most equipped to handle these characters.”

Infinity War will also pit the heroes against Thanos, the villain who has been teased ever since his first appearance in the first Avengers. “Thanos shows us why he is the biggest, the best, the baddest villain that we’ve ever had,” says Feige.

Avengers: Infinity War will star a large ensemble cast which includes Robert Downey Jr, Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Benicio del Toro, Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie. The two-part Avengers finale has been rumoured to be budgeted at $1 billion.
