Brad Pitt was one of the few people who stood up to disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein when he was made aware of his behaviour by then girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow. According to People, Pitt threatened to beat up Weinstein when Paltrow told him about the sexual advances the producer had made towards her.

Weinstein produced Shakespeare in Love, for which Paltrow won an Academy Award.

When Paltrow told Pitt about Weinstein’s behaviour towards her, he confronted him at a party in 1995. “Brad threatened Harvey,” a source said. “He got right in his face, poked him in the chest and said, ‘You will not ever do this to Gwyneth ever again.’”

The source said that Pitt threatened to give Weinstein “ a ‘Missouri whooping.’” Pitt was born in Springfield, Missouri.

The source noted that Pitt was not a big star then, and for him to take on someone as powerful as Weinstein was admirable. “He was a young guy in Hollywood taking a chance,” the source said.

Paltrow came forward with her story in a piece published in the New York Times in October. “I thought he was going to fire me,” she told the paper. “He screamed at me for a long time. It was brutal.” Since the revelations, multiple investigations have been launched against Weinstein, and he has been removed from several groups such as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Over 80 women have come forward to allege sexual misconduct against him, with some even accusing him of rape.

Pitt worked with Weinstein in Inglourious Basterds in 2009 and Killing Them Softly in 2012.
