NASA decommissions Spitzer Space Telescope after 16 years, Webb in the offing

Nasa turned off its Spitzer Space Telescope, the best infrared eye in the universe, on January 30, ending a 16-year mission. Launched in 2003, Spitzer was one of Nasa’s four Great Observatories, along with the Hubble Space Telescope, the Chandra X-ray Observatory and the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory.
