Baby dies after 11-year-old girl pushes her into sewage pit in Hyderabad
Initially, police thought the baby had accidentally fallen into the sewage pit but the victim’s parents suspected that someone might have kidnapped her while she was playing with other children and killed her.
The Hyderabad police on Friday arrested a 11-year old girl for allegedly pushing a 14-month old baby girl into a sewage pit, resulting in the latter’s death, at Necklace Road on the banks of Hussainsagar lake in Hyderabad on Thursday.
The body of P Akshara, daughter of a slum dweller living adjacent to Jala Vihar waterpark on the banks of the lake, was retrieved on Thursday evening and was sent to Gandhi hospital for post mortem. The doctors concluded that the girl died of asphyxiation as she gulped sewage water.
Initially, police thought the girl had accidentally fallen into the sewage pit as the closed circuit cameras installed in the area indicated that the girl was walking out of their house alone.
However, Akshara’s father Appala Naidu, in his complaint to the police suspected that somebody might have kidnapped her when she was playing with other children and killed her.
On Friday, the police made enquiries with the children in the surrounding areas. During the investigation, they came to know that an 11-year old girl, who was playing with Akshara, had pushed the baby into the pit.
“Apparently, Akshara bit the girl’s hand while playing and in a fit of anger, the girl pushed the baby away and she fell into the adjacent pit accidentally. When Akshara did not come out, the girl was frightened and ran away from the spot,” the police said.
After interrogation, the police arrested the girl and sent her to juvenile home.
