4 Jharkhand cops killed in Maoist attack in Latehar

The deceased were identified as the sub-inspector Sukra Oraon, the jawans Sikandar Singh and Shambhu Prasad and the driver Jamuna Prasad.

Four policemen including a sub- inspector were killed in a Maoist attack Jharkhand’s Latehar district late on Friday evening.

The suspected CPI (Maoists) cadres targeted a police patrol vehicle near Lukuiya More, near the Chandwa police station, on the national highway 75 killing three on the spot while one jawan succumbed to injuries while being shifted to a hospital in Ranchi for treatment.

The deceased were identified as the sub-inspector Sukra Oraon, the jawans Sikandar Singh and Shambhu Prasad and the driver Jamuna Prasad.

One of the jawan Dinesh Ram managed to survive the attack as he was not present near the vehicle at the time of attack.

The Jharkhand DGP KN Chaubey confirmed the death of three police personnel in the Maoist attack. The injured jawan Shambhu died later on the way to hospital.

The attack comes ahead of the assembly elections that are due to be held in five phases from November 30 to December 20. The results will be announced on December 23.

In June this year, a Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan was killed and four other security personnel were injured after Maoists opened fire on security forces in Kathalia area of Dumka district.

On May 28, at least 26 security personnel of central police force and state police were injured after Maoists triggered a series of improvised explosive device blasts in Rai Sindri Hills under Kuchai police station limits of Sarikela-Kharsawan district.

In April, BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi and four other accompanying him in a convoy of vehicles were killed when Maoist rebels triggered an improvised explosive device (IEDs).
