5 Bangladeshi nationals attempting to return home held near Assam-Tripura border
Upon interrogation, they revealed that a racket helped them to enter India illegally and they stayed here for almost a year
Five Bangladeshi immigrants were arrested from two different areas near the Assam-Tripura border by security force trying to move back home, police said.
While two were arrested at Silchar railway station, the other three were held at Churaibari check-post near Assam-Tripura border on Thursday evening.
According to the police, the arrested accused came to India illegally a few months back in search of jobs. “They worked in India but failed to get desired jobs, so they attempted to go back. Their abnormal body language helped the police to identify them,” said Cachar’s superintendent of police Numal Mahatta.

The arrested people, all men, have been identified as Khokan Fakir, Mizanur Rahman, Fardin Islam, Shag Miya and Ashraful Islam. They are all residents of Bangladesh, police said. They came to Silchar on a train from Guwahati on Wednesday, according to the police.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, at least six illegal migrants were arrested in Tripura’s Kailashahar town on Thursday afternoon. The officer-in-charge of Kailashahar’s Irani police station Jatindra Das said they entered India on November 23 with the help of an international racket.
“They came to India in search of jobs and were heading towards Tamil Nadu. We found Indian and Bangladeshi currency along with mobile phones and Indian SIM cards,” Jatindra Das said.
Upon interrogation, they revealed that a racket helped them to enter India illegally and they stayed here for almost a year. Moreover, “Fake Indian bank accounts, Aadhar Cards and other documents were recovered from the arrested persons,” Das added.
