7 killed as vehicle falls into gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri
The mini-bus skidded off the road and plunged into a 1,000 feet deep gorge after the driver lost control over the vehicle.
At least seven people were killed and 25 others injured when an overloaded minibus rolled down in a deep gorge in Dera Gali area of Rajouri district on Sunday.
According to the police, around 1 pm, a minibus carrying about 32 passengers was on its way from Khanetar in Poonch to Shahdra Sharief in Rajouri district. It met with an accident at Maggi Morh near Dera Ki Gali area.
The mini-bus skidded off the road and plunged into a 1,000 feet deep gorge after the driver lost control over the vehicle.
Soon locals and police rushed to the spot and evacuated all the passengers from the accident site to the district hospital in Rajouri for treatment. While five of the passengers died on the spot, 27 others who were injured were shifted to the district hospital in Rajouri. Two people succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital.
Meanwhile, doctors in Rajouri hospital have referred 11 of the seriously injured to the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu for specialized treatment.
The deceased, all residents of Khanetar were identified as, Abdul Qayyum 3, Mohd Peer 48, Mohd Rafiq 50, Masaraat Bi 20, Kaneeza Bi 45, Haseena Bi 33 and Mansha Begum 60 years.
Meanwhile, the police has registered a case under Sections- 279,304-A (rash driving on a public way and causing death by negligence) and has initiated investigation.
