8 million foreign origin cigarette sticks to be disposed off by Delhi Customs

The Delhi Customs (Preventive) plans to dispose off 8 million foreign origin cigarettes sticks valued at 10.06 crore as part of Special Campaign 3.0, a finance ministry official said.

The move involves 7.6 million sticks of foreign origin cigarettes worth 9.38 crore seized by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and 0.4 million sticks of foreign origin cigerettess worth 68 lakh seized by the Delhi Customs Preventive, which are Ripe for Disposal, by way of destruction, the ministry said.

The disposal will take place in a waste management facility in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, which is authorised by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) according to the Disposal Manual, 2019.

The cigarettes were seized as these violated the provisions of Customs Act 1962 and also contravened provisions of Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (packaging and Labelling) Rules, 2008.
