After Punjab win, AAP eyes Himachal Pradesh; will contest on all 68 seats

After Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party has decided to contest the Himachal Pradesh Assembly election on all 68 seats, its senior leader Satyendar Jain announced on Saturday. The announcement was made as Jain was holding a roadshow in the state's capital Shimla along with party workers.
"After Punjab now it's Himachal Pradesh's turn," said Jain, adding, "We will contest elections on all 68 seats in Himachal Pradesh in upcoming Assembly elections."
He also noted that the state's health and education systems are in a poor state and asserted that AAP "will form its government" in Himachal Pradesh in the upcoming assembly elections.
The state is slated to hold its Assembly elections this year in November.
The tenure of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end in January next year.
Himachal Pradesh last held its Assembly polls in 2017 in which the Bharatiya Janata Party formed the state government under the leadership of Jai Ram Thakur.
The AAP's announcement to contest Himachal polls comes days after it stormed to power in Punjab, winning 92 of 117 seats in Thursday's election and displacing Congress. Punjab is the second state to come under the AAP government after Delhi.
The party had contested in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh this time and in UP, its vote share was 0.4%. In Goa, it managed two seats and now the party is keen to build on this momentum to expand its national footprint ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
