Ahead of Nitish-Tejashwi swearing-in, Tej Pratap Yadav's gesture for supporters

The former Bihar minister and the elder brother of the state's soon-to-be-deputy CM was seen showing a ‘victory’ sign to their party's supporters.

In a ‘message’ to his supporters ahead of Wednesday's swearing-in of Bihar's new government – a day after Nitish Kumar snapped ties with the BJP and returned to the Mahagathbandhan fold – RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav was seen showing a ‘victory’ sign to them as the coalition prepared for the 2pm ceremony.

Tej Pratap's younger brother, Tejashwi, is expected to be sworn-in alongside Kumar, and will be the deputy to the 71-year-old politician, who will assume the top post for the eighth time. However, it is not known if Tej Pratap, who was Kumar's health minister in the Mahagathbandhan's 2015-2017 government, would be inducted as well.

The RJD, founded by the brothers father, Lalu Prasad Yadav, is the largest political party in the Bihar assembly, and is, therefore, expected to bag the maximum number of portfolios in the incoming government, including the crucial home department.

Meanwhile, Tuesday's developments took place after several days of reported tiff between Kumar's JD(U) and the BJP, despite their alliance winning the assembly elections in October-November 2020. The union came to an end almost five years after the JD(U) exited the grand alliance and joined the BJP-led NDA, over corruption allegations against then deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav.
