Cachar district superintendent of police Ramandeep Kaur on Tuesday said two of the three were arrested by a joint team of Assam police and Assam Rifles’ field intelligence unit with some weapons from Shib Colony area of Silchar town at 9pm on Monday. The third was arrested from the Jirighat area near Assam-Manipur Border on Tuesday on the basis of information given by the two suspects.

The three have been identified as 46-year-old Dinpatrei Riamei aka Joshuwa, a resident of the Heingang area of Manipur’s Imphal East district, and Chamdankhuan (37) and Namajarei Rongmai (38), both residents of Cachar district’s Jirighat area.

“They all are active members of Naga National Council (NNC) and the so-called federal government of Nagaland (FGN). Dinpatrei Riamei is their leader. The group is using the Cachar district as a transit for activities between Nagaland and Manipur. Some other members of the group managed to escape but we are going to arrest them soon,” Kaur said.

The police officer said the three were involved in a firing incident on January 11 this year in which another suspected militant,David Rongmai (30) died at Jirighat.

“Dinpatrei Riamei has admitted that he shot the person who died in January firing. They were involved in similar activities near Assam-Manipur border areas in the recent past but their basic area of activities is Manipur,” Kaur added.
