Bihar election key candidates results highlights: The NDA has clinched a decisive victory in the Bihar assembly elections after maintaining a strong lead throughout the counting. The 243-member Bihar Assembly went to the polls in two phases: November 6 and November 11. On both days, ECI reported a new record for voter turnout in Bihar’s polling history.

The key contest of the Bihar elections is between Nitish Kumar and his JD(U) and RJD, led by Tejashwi Yadav. The incumbent JD(U) leader will be eyeing his tenth term as chief minister if he is named as the chief ministerial face of the NDA alliance.
Despite the major loss of Mahagathbandhan alliance, RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav secured his home turf of Raghopur by a margin of over 14,000 votes after a close contest with BJP candidate Satish Kumar.
What happened in 2020?
In the previous 2020 assembly elections, the NDA — led by the BJP and JD(U) — had narrowly retained power with 125 seats, just above the majority mark of 122. This time, the NDA alliance is backed by HAM and other NDA partners, hoping to secure another term.
On the other side, the RJD-Congress-led Mahagathbandhan, led by Tejashwi Yadav, aims to oust the long-serving CM, banking on anti-incumbency and promises of change.
Bihar election results 2025 | Key details
- The 2025 Bihar elections concluded with a historic highest-ever voter turnout of 66.91%. As per ECI, this is the highest voter turnout recorded in the State since 1951. The polling body further added that of this, 62.8% voters were male and 71.6% were female.
- The counting of votes for all 243 assembly constituencies began at 8 AM. The election was held in two phases on November 6 and 11.
- Among the key winners of the Bihar results are former deputy CM Tarkishore Prasad, and Bhojpuri singer Maithili Thakur, jailed JD(U) candidate Anant Kumar Singh and Tejashwi Yadav.
- As per the Exit Polls for the Bihar assembly, the JD(U)-led NDA alliance was projected for a big win, with the Mahagathbandhan alliance losing out. Meanwhile, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj has been projected to win zero to four seats of 243 and the results presented by the Election Commission reflect a similar scenario.

BJP’s Maithili Thakur has secured a massive victory in Alinagar, becoming the youngest MLA in the Bihar assembly. She defeated RJD’s Binod Mishra by over 11,730 votes, according to the EC.
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav emerged victorious in Raghopur after a closely fought contest. He secured the seat with a margin of more than 14,000 votes, bouncing back after trailing through several rounds of counting.
In a notable contest, BJP’s Chhoti Kumari defeated RJD candidate and Bhojpuri star Khesari Lal Yadav by 7,600 votes. Kumari received over 86,000 votes, while Yadav finished with nearly 79,000.
In Mahua, Lalu Prasad’s elder son and Janshakti Janta Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav lost to Sanjay Kumar Singh.
JD(U) leader and sitting MLA Anant Kumar Singh retained the Mokama seat, defeating RJD’s Veena Devi by more than 28,000 votes.
