A sub-inspector with the Border Security Force (BSF) posted along the India-Pakistan international border at Kanachak area of Akhnoor sector in Jammu and Kashmir, was on Monday found dead in his room under mysterious circumstances, said officials in the know of the matter.
The body was shifted to hospital for autopsy, he said, adding, the matter is being probed to ascertain the cause of the death. (Representational photo)
The deceased was a resident of Sikar in Rajasthan, said the official.
Kanachak station house officer, inspector, Kunal Singh said, “We have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC. Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide. The officer’s body was found inside his room after a BSF man went inside to serve him tea at 6.35 am on Monday.”
“The officer was found lying in a pool of blood along with his personal assault weapon, a 9 mm Beretta. The shot was fired beneath the chin and had made exit from the head,” he said.
The body was shifted to hospital for autopsy, he said, adding, the matter is being probed to ascertain the cause of the death.
