“We received a tip-off that the websites had obscene images and videos of children,” said a member of the Cyber Crime Cell in Chennai. “We later found out that the people running it are residents of the city.”
Both Siddhattha Velu and his wife, Priscilla Margaret Dhanaraj, had email IDs linked to the illegal websites. Aside from that, police found that Velu's bank account in Bengaluru had around Rs 2.4 crore, which they suspect are profits from selling memberships to the child pornography sites.
Police arrested the couple, who met while working at a software company, and registered a case under the IT act and charges of child pornography.
Materials and evidence connecting the husband and wife to the websites were seized. Police are now trying to determine who bought memberships to the sites.
