Heavy rains and gusty winds caused by Cyclone Mora damaged over a hundred houses, disrupted power transmission and caused landslides in several parts of Mizoram on Wednesday, officials said. However, there were no reports of any casualty.

The cyclone, which reached Mizoram on Tuesday from Bangladesh, affected most parts of the state on Wednesday as well, with all districts witnessing rains and heavy winds.

“Siaha is the most affected district. Many houses have been damaged, trees have fallen in several areas and power transmission lines disrupted. There has been no human casualty,” N Chakhai, director of the Mizoram disaster management and rehabilitation department, told HT.

Heavy rainfall caused landslides in some areas blocking roads. But they were cleared within hours.

According to a press release issued by the state information department on Wednesday evening, 137 houses were damaged - either fully or partially - due to the cyclone.

A government hospital, four churches and a school were also damaged. Transmission lines and electric poles fell down or were damaged at over a dozen places and 32 landslides were reported.
