IMD issues rainfall alert for several states for next few days | Check details
Indian Army and IAF are conducting relief and rescue operations in flood-affected regions of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Over 240 people have been rescued in MP in the last two days and over 120 have been given primary treatment, said an Army official.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rain in several parts of the country in the next two-three days. The IMD forecast comes at a time when many states are reeling under the fury of floods and landslides amid heavy rainfall.

Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh
It predicted a widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls over the Vidarbha region on August 28 while east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh may expect the same on August 25 and 28.
West Bengal and Sikkim
The agency predicted light to moderate widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls very likely over Odisha on August 27, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim from August 27-29.
Uttar Pradesh and Bihar
Southeast Uttar Pradesh and Bihar might expect precipitation on August 27 and 28. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Uttarakhand for the next five days with the possibility of rain across the state from August 27-29.
An alert has also been issued for Jammu and Kashmir on August 25 and Himachal Pradesh on August 28.
Tracking Northeast
A few Northeastern states such as Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura may experience moderate rainfall from August 27-29, whereas Arunachal Pradesh and Assam and Meghalaya are predicted to see rainfall for five days from August 25-29. But August 27 might see isolated very heavy rainfall in these states.
Southern states
South interior Karnataka is likely to receive rainfall on August 26, while Telangana may see rain on August 27 and 28. In Kerala, the showers are predicted on August 26-28, and in Tamil Nadu, for the next 5 days.
MP CM on the flood situation
“Flood situation is improving though the water level in Chambal river is still rising in Bhind and Morena districts. District administration, SDRF, and NDRF are vigilant. Efforts are underway to evacuate people from low-lying areas. Three helicopters of Indian Air Force have been deployed,” news agency ANI quoted Madhya Pradesh chief minister as saying.

“People living in lower regions in Madhya Pradesh are being relocated to relief camps. Saving people's lives is our priority. The NDRF teams deployed for rescue operations. No lives lost so far despite such a huge disaster,” he added.
IMD scientist SN Sahu warned about heavy rain activity in the eastern part of the state over the next 2-3 days owing to turf line and circulation over the Bay of Bengal.
Ashok Gehlot conducts aerial survey
Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot took an aerial survey of the rain-affected areas in Kota and Bundi district along with urban development minister Shanti Dhariwal, MLA from Pipalda Ramnarayan Meena and MLA from Sangod Bharat Singh Kundanpur.
