In Manipur’s Chandel district, border fencing cut in 150 metre stretch

Police said this is the second instance of the border fence being flattened in this manner in the area since December 5

IMPHAL: Forty-seven circular poles used to erect the border fence along India’s border with Myanmar have been cut in a 150 metre stretch in Manipur’s Chandel district, police said on Friday.

This is the second instance of the border fence being flattened in this manner in the area in the last two months.

Police said the incident took place on the night intervening January 14-15 near border pillar 62 in Chandel district. In all, 47 fencing poles were cut down by the unidentified persons who are suspected to be from Myanmar.

The border fence was erected by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

Manipur Police said a case has been registered at Chandel’s Molcham police station.

On December 2 last year, some people had also cut off around 150-200 metres in Chandel district’s Changpol village.

No arrests have been made yet.
