J-K: Indian soldier injured in Pakistani shelling in Nowshera

A soldier was injured in the exchange of fire between the two armies, which started after Pakistani forces shelled along the LoC in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district on Sunday.

Sub divisional magistrate of Nowshera, Harbans Lal Sharma said no civilian died as reported in social media.

However, a soldier was injured in the exchange of fire between the two armies. The soldier’s identity is yet to be ascertained.

A defence spokesman said that Pakistani army opened heavy fire at around 6.30 am in Nowshera sector, prompting Indian army to retaliate. The exchanges stopped at 8.30 am.

SDM Sharma said that 3,361 villagers were still staying in five relief camps in Nowshera town.

Pakistani BAT forces had killed two Indian soldiers on June 22 in KG sector in a trans-LoC raid, but the Indian troops had also eliminated two Pakistani gunmen in retaliation.

Since May 1, when Pakistani army beheaded two Indian soldiers — JCO Paramjit Singh and BSF head constable Prem Sagar — there has been a spike in ceasefire violations by Pakistan on the borders.
