Justice Abhilasha Kumari is Manipur HC’s first woman chief justice

Justice Abhilasha Kumari on Friday became first woman to become the chief justice of the Manipur high court.

Chief minister N Biren Singh, assembly speaker Y Khemchand, deputy chief minister Y Joykumar, opposition leader O Ibobi Singh, newly elected deputy speaker K Robindro, MLAs P Saratchandra, T Robindro, acting chief justice N Kotishwar, state chief secretary RR Rashmi, DGP L K Khaute and other legal luminaries and government officials attended the ceremony.
Justice Kumari--daughter of former Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh--has served as a Gujarat high court judge and chief justice of Tripura high court. She is the third full-time chief justice of Manipur high court.
Justice Kumari enrolled as an advocate in 1984 and practised cases concerning civil, criminal, consumer affairs, industrial insurance and company affairs in Himachal high court and the Himachal Pradesh administrative tribunal.
She also served as additional advocate general of Himachal Pradesh after the Congress government came to power in March 2003.
