Karnataka elections Highlights: Congress is a gold medallist in corruption, says Modi

Prime minister Narendra Modi and Congress president Rahul Gandhi were in Karnataka on Thursday as a part of their election campaigns in the state ahead of the May 12 assembly election.
Modi began his second round of campaigning in poll-bound Karnataka on Thursday with a rally in Kalaburagi. Later on Thursday, Modi also addressed a rally in Bengaluru. The BJP has also lined up a galaxy of leaders, including Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, to address public meetings in the next few days.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi held corner meetings in Aurad, Bhalki and Humnabad in Bidar district on Thursday.
Polling for the 224-member Assembly will be held on May 12, and results will be declared on the 15th of the month.

6:18pm: “I promise the Delhi government (Modi government) is with the Karnataka people. We are with you to give you a bright future,” says Modi.
6:16pm: “Congress is trying to fool the people of Karnataka with its manifesto. Congress in 2013 had promised to build one super speciality hospital in every district. But in 2018, this got changed to one super speciality hospital for every three districts,” the Prime Minister says.
6:15pm: “Congress in its ‘Hawa Hawai’ manifesto said if it is elected again in the state, the IT sector will get 300 billion dollars. Please come back to earth and tell lies which are at least believable,” Modi says in Bengaluru.
6:10pm: “Congress is not answering what promises it fulfilled from its manifesto. It is not telling what all it did in the last five years, but keeps asking what Modi did,” says PM Modi.
6:05pm: “We are working towards promoting Ease of Doing Business, Congress is ensuring Ease of Doing Murder in Karnataka,” says PM Modi.
6:00pm: Modi says Bengaluru’s identity is its lakes. “The city of lakes has turned into a city of burning lakes under the Congress government. The photos of Bellandur Lake (spilling toxic foam) speak for the govt’s inefficiency.”
5:59pm: Modi says the BJP government has brought in a provision to hang the rapists of girls below the age of 12.
5:58pm: “Under the Congress, women safety has become the biggest cause of concern. Earlier, people used to go to Goa and Bengaluru to celebrate New Year’s. But the photos on social media from the celebrations have stopped the people from coming to Bengaluru,” says Modi in Bengaluru’s Kengeri.
5:56pm: Modi tells youth that they have the power to bring a change in Karnataka. “Congress is a gold medallist in corruption. If u don’t remove them, they will keep creating troubles for you.”
5:54pm: “There was a concept of a ‘steel bridge’ in Bengaluru. Congress government turned it into ‘Steal bridge’. They did nothing to check and put an end to corruption in the state,” says Modi.
5:50pm: Modi says every day, new records are being broken in corruption under Congress.
5:47pm: Bengaluru was known as the ‘Garden city’ but the Congress has converted it to ‘Garbage city’: Modi. “Bengaluru was a cosmopolitan city, which has been turned into a culture of chaos,” the PM adds.
5:45pm: “The youth and the people of Bengaluru made the city a Silicon Valley. In the last five years, the Congress has made Silicon Valley into a valley of sin,” says Modi. “The computer capital has been turned into a crime capital under the present government (Congress).”
5:42pm: PM Modi says surveys have shown that JD(S) will be a distant third, they cannot form a government so no one should waste their vote on them.
5:40pm: “When Congress starts talking about hung assembly it means it is confirmed that the BJP will come in power in Karnataka under Yeddyurappa’s leadership on May 15,” says Modi. “JD(S) will not be able to form a government in Karnataka.”
5:35pm: PM Modi greets people in Kannada. “People of Karnataka have decided to demolish Congress’ last held fort on May 15,” says Modi.

Congress never promoted the textile sector and cloth industry in Karnataka. BJP has formulated a new textile policy which will significantly benefit the sector as well as generate employment opportunities for people: Modi.

3.28pm: We (BJP govt) wanted OBC Commission to get Constitutional status but the Congress did not let it happen: PM Modi.
The Congress does vote-bank politics. They divide people on the grounds of caste. They are insensitive towards the tribal communities and the OBCs, adds Modi.
3.24pm: PM Modi on central policies: Ours is a sensitive government which looks after the aspirations of people and then formulate policies. Through the Fasal Bima Yojana we have been able to ensure welfare of farmers.
3.19pm: When we had got the opportunity to serve people of Karnataka earlier, so many development initiatives were undertaken. But sadly, the Congress could not even ensure proper water supply despite the state being rich in water resources, alleges Narendra Modi.

10.40am: The Prime Minister began his second leg of campaign for Karnataka in May 1, addressing three rallies in Chamrajanagar, Udupi and Belagavi district that covered 48 assembly constituencies. He launched a blistering attack on the Congress and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, as he floated “2+1” theory to target the “dynasty Congress”.
Siddaramiah is contesting from two assembly seats, Chamundeshwari and Badami, while his son is a Congress candidate from Varuna.
