Kunal Kamra slams T-Series for copyright notice on his ‘traitor’ video
Kunal Kamra claims T-series issued a copyright notice against his parody video, asserting fair use rights in response.
Comedian Kunal Kamra, who stirred a controversy after his alleged joke against Maharashtra deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, on Wednesday claimed that T-series has issued a copyright infringement notice against the video. Sharing a screenshot on his X account, Kamra claimed that a video of his parody act has been flagged by YouTube for a copyright violation.
"Hello T Series... Parody & Satire comes under fair use Legally. I haven’t used the lyrics or the original instrumental of the song. If you take this video down every cover song/dance video can be taken down. Creators please take a note of it," Kamra said in his post.
"Having said that every monopoly in India is nothing short of Mafia so please watch/download this special before it’s taken down," he added.
Kunal Kamra, known for his no-holds-barred stand-up comedy at the expense of politicians and celebrities, incurred the wrath of Eknath Shinde's supporters last week with a song targeting the Shiv Sena president in one of his standup acts.
Sena activists vandalised the Habitat Comedy Club in suburban Khar on Sunday night where his show had taken place, and the hotel where the club is located.
A defiant Kamra stood his ground and refused to apologise. "I will not apologise or hide under the bed waiting for the controversy to die down," he said in a late Monday night statement.
Based on a complaint filed by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel, the Khar police have registered an FIR against the 36-year-old comedian for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Shinde.
Kamra, who is in Puducherry according to his Instagram bio, has been asked to appear within a week, police sources had said on Tuesday.
