M Karunanidhi dies at 94. Kauvery Hospital releases full statement

Thousands gathered outside Chennai’s Kauvery Hospital on Tuesday as the news of DMK chief M Karunanidhi’s death hit the country Tuesday evening. The leader, who died at the age of 94, had been undergoing treatment at the hospital for around two weeks for urinary tract infection and was being treated with intravenous antibiotics and fluids.

Several grieved and expressed condolences for the leader’s family. As many as 6,500 police personnel were deployed in the city in an effort to maintain peace.

“We profoundly mourn the loss of one of the tallest leaders of India,” a statement released by Kauvery hospital said while confirming the time of his death 6:40 pm today.

Here is the full text of the statement released by Kauvery hospital:

“With deep anguish, we announce the demise of our beloved Klaignar Dr M Karunanidhi on 07.08.2018 PM. Despite the best possible efforts by our team of doctors to resuscitate him, he failed to respond,” the statement said.

“We profoundly mourn the loss of one of the tallest leaders of India and we share the grief of family members and fellow Tamilians worldwide,” it added.
