Earlier in the day, a 5.2 magnitude earthquake jolted Afghanistan at 3:10 PM IST, marking a strong seismic event in the region. This earthquake occurred at a considerable depth of 180 km and was an aftershock of a 4.6 magnitude quake that had struck the area earlier. The tremors in Afghanistan are part of ongoing seismic activity that has kept the region on edge in recent days.
The National Center for Seismology also reported that earlier this week, on March 21, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake hit Afghanistan, further contributing to the series of tremors in the region.
Meanwhile, Nepal was also affected by seismic events on Wednesday, March 26, when a moderate earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale struck the northwestern Humla district. The earthquake occurred at 7:44 PM local time, with the epicenter located in the Kalika area of Humla, about 425 kilometers northwest of Kathmandu. Fortunately, no immediate reports of significant damage or casualties have emerged.
Further northeast, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Tibet at 6:27 PM, with its epicenter located in Tingri County. The earthquake's tremors were felt in Kathmandu, Nepal, where residents experienced noticeable shaking, though there have been no reports of severe impacts.
As the seismic activity continues to affect different regions, authorities in the affected countries are monitoring the situation closely to ensure public safety.
The National Center for Seismology continues to urge residents in earthquake-prone areas to stay informed and be prepared for aftershocks.
