A 52-year-old man, bereaved over injuring his son with his gun, allegedly committed suicide in Kerala on Sunday.

Police said Mathew, a security employee with a private firm, shot himself on Sunday morning at Ayyampuzha near Angamaly in Ernakulam district.
Mathew’s 23-year-old son Manu was hurt after Mathew’s licensed gun went off accidentally while being cleaned. Manu was admitted in a private hospital with minor injuries. Police said he was out of danger.
Police have launched a detailed investigation into the incident, and have registered a case of careless handling of gun and unnatural death.
In his statement, Manu said he was hurt by accident while his father was cleaning the weapon. He further claimed his father committed suicide fearing that Manu was seriously injured.
