Man performs rituals after keeping mother’s body at home in Kerala: Cops

Police launched a probe after a Kerala man allegedly kept his 80-year-old mother's body at home for days and performed rituals.

In an unusual incident, a man allegedly kept the death of his 80-year-old mother a secret for days and continued to keep her body at their home near here while performing rituals, police said on Saturday.

The incident came to light when the woman's granddaughter arrived at the house on Friday night to visit her, police said.

The granddaughter immediately alerted the police, an officer at the Kulathupuzha police station said.

The officer said a case of unnatural death has been registered and further action would be taken after completion of the inquest and postmortem procedures.

The woman appeared to have died a few days ago, police said.

"The deceased woman's son has some mental health issues. He did not give any reason for not informing anyone about her death. He just kept smiling," the officer added.
