Mangaluru city police have arrested 10 persons, including medical students, on the charges of consuming and peddling cannabis and seized 2 kg of the narcotic substance, officials said on Wednesday.
According to the police, on January 7, the city crime branch (CCB) of the Mangaluru city police arrested Neil Kishorilal Ramji Shah (38), who is an Overseas Citizen of India, from an apartment at Bunts Hostel Road, for possessing cannabis.
The police had recovered over 2kg cannabis worth ₹50,000, two mobile phones, a toy pistol, a dagger, ₹7,000 and a digital weighing scale. After interrogation in his three-day custody, Sha revealed that he was supplying drugs to other medical students, the police said.
Sha is enrolled as a student at dental college in Mangaluru for the last 15 years. “He was pursuing his studies at a dental college and in the past 15 years, he had not completed his education,” Mangaluru police commissioner N Shashi Kumar said.

The arrested have been identified as Dr Sameer (32) from Kerala, Dr Nadia Siraj (24) from Kerala, Dr Manimaran Muthu (28) from Tamil Nadu, Dr Varshini Prati (26) from Andhra Pradesh, Dr Bhanu Dahiya (27) from Chandigarh, Dr Riya Chadha (22) from Chandigarh, Dr Khsithij Gupta (25) from Delhi, Dr Ira Basin (23) from Maharashtra, Neil Kishorilal Ramji Shah (38) and Mohammad Rauf Ghaus (34) from Maripalla, Bantwal.
The accused, including four women, have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, the police said. The accused were produced before the jurisdictional court on January 11 and were remanded in police custody for two days.
The police commissioner said after the cooker bomb blast, the police have imposed certain strict restrictions for paying guest accommodations, and advised people to remain vigilant and alert the authorities in case of any suspicion.
