Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Jakarta on Tuesday on the first leg of his three-nation tour to East Asia to cement the political, economic and strategic interest of the two friendly maritime neighbours.

Modi, who is on his first official visit to Indonesia, met President Joko Widodo on Wednesday and discussed bilateral cooperation in a broad range of areas, including maritime, trade and investment.

The two leaders would attend some events, including a CEO Business Forum organised by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and the Industry, and the Confederation of Indian Industry.

3:43pm: We are making arrangements of free of cost visa for Indonesian citizens for travel of up to 30 days: PM Modi in Jakarta.

“Many of you may never have been to India. I invite you all to come to India for the Kumbh in Prayag next year,” says PM Modi.

3:40pm: “We have gone a step ahead of ‘Ease of Doing Business.’ Our focus is ‘Ease of Living.’ Our processes are transparent and sensitive,” says PM Modi.

“Not only do the names of our nations rhyme but also there is a distinct rhythm in the India-Indonesia friendship,” PM adds. “Both India and Indonesia have a sensitive outlook when it comes to helping those in need. We do not see the colour of anyone’s passport, we help our fellow humans who require any assistance.”

3.30pm: Our first priority as a government is to make the country corruption free, citizen-centric and development friendly: PM Modi to Indian community in Jakarta.

3.22pm: Earlier today, President Joko Widodo and I inaugurated a series of kite exhibits which included themes from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata: PM Modi.

12:10pm: After joint press meet, PM Modi and Indonesian President visited a kite exhibition and Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta.

11.55 am: 15 MoUs were signed between Indian and Indonesia including in the fields of defence, scientific and technological cooperation, railways and health.

10.57 am: For the development of Indo-Pacific region we (India - Indonesia) have agreed to the same shared vision. India’s Act East Policy and the vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for all in the Region) matches President Widodo’s Maritime Fulcrum Policy, PM Modi said in Jakarta.

10.52 am: India-ASEAN partnership is such an important power that can become a guarantee of peace not only in Indo-Pacific region but also beyond it, PM Modi said.
