Proceedings in Parliament resumed on Monday after both the Houses witnessed repeated adjournments last week over the issue of citizens’ registry in Assam.
On Friday, home minister Rajnath Singh accused Trinamool Congress MPs of creating an “unruly situation” at the Silchar airport and said they were detained in view of intelligence inputs received by the Assam government on the law and order situation.

Rajya Sabha passes bill to grant constitutional status to OBC panel
The Rajya Sabha passed a bill to provide constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes, as several members urged the government to make public the findings of the caste census and implement reservation accordingly.
The demand was raised during a debate on the Constitution (123rd Amendment) Bill 2017, passed by the Lok Sabha on August 2 superseding the amendments earlier carried out by the Rajya Sabha.
The Upper House adopted the legislation, along with the amendments made by the Lok Sabha, by 156 votes to nil. Over two-third majority of those present voted in favour of the bill, which is a necessity for amending the Constitution.
Justice KM Joseph seniority issue echoes in Lok Sabha
The row over government’s alleged attempt to affect the seniority of Justice KM Joseph as a Supreme Court judge echoed in the Lok Sabha with Congress’ K Venugopal raising the issue in the Zero Hour.
Without naming Joseph, Venugopal said government wants to have its way in every appointment in the judiciary.
He referred to media reports about the proposed meeting of some Supreme Court judges with the Chief Justice over attempts to affect Joseph’s seniority.
TDP demands release of funds for Andhra Pradesh
TDP members brought placards in the Lok Sabha to protest the Centre’s alleged withdrawal of funds for Andhra Pradesh and demanded the Union government immediately release them.
TDP’s Ram Mohan Naidu said the Centre had promised Rs 22,000 crore for seven backward districts of the state but has agreed to give only Rs 2050 crore, which is a “grave injustice”.
A TDP member later tore some papers and threw them in the air as party MPs staged a walkout after Naidu’s speech.
Question Hour, Zero Hour conducted smoothly in Rajya Sabha
After repeated adjournments last week over the Assam NRC issue, normalcy returned to the Rajya Sabha on Monday with the smooth conduct of the Zero Hour and Question Hour.
