The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has directed the committee, constituted by the Lucknow district magistrate, to remove encroachments from near Balrampur Hospital, King George Medical University (KGMU) and Civil Hospital, Lucknow, and to point out the action taken for smooth movement of traffic and ambulances near them, on May 10.

The court directed the SDM concerned to submit a fresh status report regarding removal of encroachment as well as the action taken by the committee, by filing a detailed affidavit on May 10, the next date of hearing.

A division bench of justice Pankaj Kumar Jaiswal and justice Rajnish Kumar passed the order on Friday, on a public interest litigation petition raising the issue of encroachments in front of the said hospitals and the PGI.

The state counsel submitted that on March 30, 2019, a team of eight members headed by Sarojini Nagar sub divisional magistrate was constituted which submitted its report, according to which, the encroachment at SGPGI had been removed, he said.

Earlier, the petitioner had pointed out that there are also encroachments near Balrampur Hospital, KGMU and Civil Hospital, causing inconvenience to public at large, hindering movement of ambulances, vehicals and patients. Sometimes, an ambulance carrying a patient cannot enter the hospital on time, he added.

The court had directed the committee, constituted by the DM, Lucknow, to look into the matter of encroachment with respect to SGPGI and to look into encroachments and obstructions near the three said hospitals too. It had also directed the committee to point out, on the next date of hearing (May 3), the action taken for removal of encroachment and smooth movement of traffic near the said hospitals.
