BJP mocks Rahul Gandhi's tweet on rates of food grains: ‘Tur & Arhar are same'
Poonawalla's response came minutes after Gandhi attacked the Modi government over the rising prices of food grains.
A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson on Wednesday mocked Rahul Gandhi over his tweet on the rising prices of food grains in the country, saying the Congress leader doesn't know that ‘Tur’ and ‘Arhar’ are the same.
Responding to a tweet from Congress social media head Supriya Shrinate attacking Union minister Smriti Irani over skyrocketing price of essential commodities, BJP spokesperson Shehzada Poonawalla posted a screenshot of a now-edited Rahul Gandhi's tweet and said, “First tell your pizza-eating leader that Tur and Arhar are the same… You are speaking in the language of a troll, the answer is in the same language - reduce your ego and anger.”
Earlier today, Rahul Gandhi trained his guns on the Modi government over the rise in prices of food grains and vegetables.
Gandhi tweeted, “Tomato: ₹140 per kg, Cauliflower: ₹80 per kg, Toor Dal: ₹148 per kg, Arhar Dal: ₹219 per kg and cooking gas cylinder above ₹1,100. The BJP government, which is busy increasing the wealth of capitalists and collecting taxes from the public, has forgotten the poor and middle-class families.”
The leader added further, “In the Congress-ruled states, we reduced the prices of gas to provide relief from inflation, and put money in the accounts of the poor for financial assistance.”
The tweet has since been edited to add 'branded' before ‘arhar’.
The prices of food grains and vegetables witnessed a hike across the country in recent times. The tomato price, which was at ₹15 per kg in wholesale and ₹40 per kg in retail on June 19, touched ₹60 per kg and ₹80 per kg on June 26, respectively.
Meanwhile, wheat prices in the mandi rose to ₹2,302 per quintal on June 7 from ₹2,129 per quintal a month before.
Traders have attributed the hike in vegetable prices to the changing weather conditions and the difficulty in the transportation of the crops. They said the situation will normalise in three to four weeks.
