'Sisodia is honest minister', says AAP MP, slams centre

Aam Admi Party MP Sanjay Singh on Monday defended Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and called him an 'honest education minister'. Singh said Sisodia was working 'round the clock to provide quality education to 18 lakh children in Delhi'. The AAP leader accused the centre of trying to disrupt the functioning of the state, and said he had served a notice in the Rajya Sabha about the involvement of central agencies in state government matters.

"Manish Sisodia is an honest education minister. He is working hard round the clock to provide quality education to 18 lakh children in Delhi. Harassing him daily and slapping false cases on him is an attempt to create hurdles in the functioning of a state government," Singh was quoted by news agency ANI

Singh's support of Sisodia comes as the AAP is under fire from the New Delhi LG VK Saxena over the state's 2021-22 excise policy and alleged financial irregularities and procedural lapses in its implementation. The LG has recommended a CBI probe into this issue.

Last week delhi chief minsiter Arvind Kejriwal also defended Sisodia, who is also the excise minister, and said that the centre’s aim is to put him behind bars.,

“You (BJP) are the disciples of VD Savarkar, who apologised to the British. We are followers of Bhagat Singh who refused to surrender to the British and sacrificed his life. We are not afraid of going to jail,” Kejriwal said during his combative address.

Sisodia was arrested earlier in an alleged money laundering case that Kejriwal called ‘fake’.

The central agency's probe was initiated after the Delhi Chief Secretary’s report earlier this month. The report showed prima facie violations of GNCTD Act 1991, Transaction of Business Rules (ToBR)-1993, Delhi Excise Act-2009 and Delhi Excise Rules-2010. 'Deliberate and gross procedural lapses' to provide post tender 'undue benefits to liquor licensees' are also alleged.
