Suvendu Adhikari's aide shot dead in Bengal's North 24 Paraganas
As per officials, Adhikari's personal assistant was targeted by unidentified goons.
Chandranath Rath, PA of heavyweight BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, was shot dead by unidentified goons at Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas late on Wednesday night, police said.
“Chandranath Rath has been shot dead. He was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead. Investigation is going on,” said a senior police officer of Barasat police district.
As per officials, one more person with Rath inside the vehicle was also injured and rushed to the hospital.
This development comes just two days after the BJP swept the West Bengal assembly elections, bagging 207 seats. The TMC was reduced to a total of 80 seats in the legislative assembly.
Furthermore, Adhikari also defeated TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee at the Bhabanipur assembly seat, which was the outgoing chief minister's home turf.
Top BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah are expected to attend the oath-taking ceremony in Kolkata on May 9.
Senior police officials and BJP leaders, including Adhikari, were rushing to the spot
Rath played a key role in Adhikari’s election management both in Nandigram and Bhabanipur. Adhikari won both the seats.
“Unidentified motorcycle-borne goons were following the car, as far as we have come to know. His vehicle was stopped near Doharia in Madhyamgram and the miscreants fired indiscriminately while Rath was still in the vehicle,” Koustav Bagchi, BJP leader, told the media.
