Thakre takes over as Congress in-charge of Telangana
According to a senior Congress leader privy to the development, Thakre patiently heard out all the leaders to understand the ground realities in the party.
Senior Congress leader Manikrao Thakre on Wednesday took over as the All India Congress Committee in-charge in Telangana amid rumblings in the party following rebellion by senior leaders against the state leadership.
Thakre, a former Maharashtra PCC chief, who landed in Hyderabad on Wednesday morning, straightaway got into the business to set the house in order. He held a series of meetings with party seniors, including AICC secretaries Bose Raju, Rohit Chaudhary and Nadeem Javed, followed by PCC chief A Revanth Reddy.
He also held one-on-one meetings with Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who had led the rebellion against Revanth Reddy a few days ago, besides other seniors like former PCC chief and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy.
According to a senior Congress leader privy to the development, Thakre patiently heard out all the leaders to understand the ground realities in the party. “He obtained detailed feedback from them as to what is ailing in the party and its prospects in the assembly elections in the state scheduled later this year,” said the senior leader.
Thakre, who was appointed as the AICC in-charge of Telangana in place of Manickam Tagore on January 4, is expected to meet District Congress Committee (DCC) leaders, official spokespersons and others on Thursday, the party leader said.
The simmering discontent in the Telangana Congress came to the fore on December 17 when several seniors assembled at the residence of Vikramarka and raised a banner of revolt against Revanth Reddy, for “ignoring them and appointing defectors from the Telugu Desam Party in the PCC committees”.
A day after senior leaders raised the banner of revolt, 13 loyalists of Revanth Reddy had announced resignations from party posts.
