Three female students of State University of Performing and Visual Arts (SUPVA), which houses north India’s only government-run film institute, were allegedly molested by unidentified men outside their campus in Sector 6 here, police said.
The accused allegedly also attacked the male friends of the victims who had come to their rescue. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the three girls, who are pursuing the fashion designing course at the university, had stepped out of the gate to purchase some utilities from the nearby market. One of the girls said at least four boys who were standing near the gate started harassing them and passed vulgar comments.
She said she shouted for help from the security guard and some of her seniors who were standing inside the campus. When the senior boys came out and asked the accused to not harass the girls, the accused allegedly attacked them with bricks and stones, inflicting head injuries on two students.
A video of the incident is doing the rounds on the social media, which showed the two sides indulging in a violent clash. Based on the complaint, the police have booked seven unidentified men under Sections 147, 149, 323 and 354 of the Indian Penal Code.
The police suspected the accused could be sportsmen who practice in the evening at the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Stadium, adjacent to the university campus in Sector 6. They are yet to be identified and nabbed.
