Speaking to the media, Jayakalyani said she married Satish in September last year.

“My parents have objected to my love towards Satish. When I attempted to get married to him a couple of months ago, the Tamil Nadu police arrested him and took him into custody for two months,” she added.

According to a statement issued by the home minister’s office, 24-year-old Jayakalyani and her husband Satish (27), have given a petition to the home minister to ensure their security.

“Jayakalyani, who had introduced herself as an MBBS graduate informed she had got married to Satish, with mutual consent. Expressing apprehension about their safety, she said that false cases are being hoisted against her husband and hence (they are) facing threat to their lives. The minister after blessing the newly wedded couple, spoke to the city police commissioner, Kamal Pant, over the issue,” read the statement. The office of the police commissioner said that “appropriate action will be taken on the matter”.

“We were given death threats if we return to Tamil Nadu. Therefore, we have approached the Bengaluru police commissioner seeking protection,” she added.

She also urged her father that none of Kumar’s family be intimidated or affected by the couple’s decision to get married.

She said her family learned about her relationship with Satish, a ruling DMK member in Tamil Nadu, in January 2021. After they opposed it, the couple eloped and got married in Bengaluru. However, Jayakalyani said, Satish was arrested by Tamil Nadu police on a false charges on orders of her father Sekar Babu. After being released from jail, Satish released a video in which he accused the minister of allegedly intimidating his family. He also said that he and his relatives were thrashed for four days at a Tamil Nadu police station.

Meanwhile, the minister’s number was coming switched off and his office did not respond to calls. His family member and a DMK cadre Vela Babu said that only the parents can comment on the issue.
