Two arrested for attack on Tripura BJP leader’s convoy
Two persons have been arrested for allegedly attacking the convoy of a BJP politician at Karbook on Monday.
Police said a mob of nearly 40 people waylaid the convoy of Burbumohan Tripura, the BJP MLA of Karbook constituency, while he was returning home from Agartala that evening. When the politician refused to step out of his vehicle, the people allegedly began pelting stones.
Tripura and another BJP leader, Kamal Diwan, were injured in the incident. The two were taken to a primary health centre in the neighbourhood, where they were administered first aid.
Mochan Reang (35) and Swapan Debbarma (37) were arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the MLA’s bodyguard at the Karbook police station later that night. They will be produced before a court on Tuesday.
The reason for the unrest was not immediately known. Superintendent of police (control room) Harakumar Debbarma said an investigation was on.
