U.P. govt doles out 1.8L blankets to the needy in 10 days, 4.6L distributed so far

LUCKNOW To protect the financially poor from the harsh winter, the Uttar Pradesh government has distributed more than 1,79,740 blankets to the needy in the last 10 days, according to a state government press release issued on Wednesday.

Recently, on January 8, chief minister Yogi Adityanath visited the night shelters during his visit to Kashi and distributed food and blankets to those in need. In Gorakhpur as well, the CM personally distributed blankets and food.

A total of 4,66,201 blankets have been delivered to the needy so far in this cold wave by the government. The blanket distribution programme is still being carried out by the people’s representatives in all 75 districts of the state, said a government spokesperson.

The government has provided a total of 4,66,201 blankets to the poor and needy as of January 10, against 2,86,740 till January 1, implying that in just ten days, 1,79,740 blankets were distributed. The procedure of blanket distribution was completed relatively faster in each district, whether it was Lakhimpur, Banda, Maharajganj and Unnao, the release reads.

As per the district-wise break-up, 21,926 blankets have been distributed in Lakhimpur Kheri, 16,629 in Hardoi, 12,640 in Bareilly, 12,546 in Banda, 12,050 in Bulandshahr, 11,414 in Deoria, 11,989 in Maharajganj, 11,600 in Ghazipur, 11,570 in Prayagraj, 10,395 in Ballia, 10,288 in Raebareli, 10,265 in Unnao, 10,123 in Firozabad, 9,990 in Lucknow, 9,450 in Sitapur, and 9,437 in Shravasti.
