Bhadohi , An FIR has been registered against a man, his mother and elder brother after his wife alleged that she was brutally assaulted during pregnancy, resulting in a miscarriage, and was later abandoned unconscious on a roadside, police said on Thursday.
The case was registered on Wednesday at Gopiganj police station on the complaint filed by 26-year-old Sapna Saroj of Kasidaha village against her husband Rakesh Kumar Saroj, mother-in-law Rita Devi and brother-in-law Brijesh Kumar Saroj.
The FIR has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 89 , 85 , 351 , 352 and 115 .
According to Superintendent of Police Abhinav Tyagi, Sapna and Rakesh, who married in February 2017, have a son and a daughter.
"Rakesh allegedly suspected his wife's character and had subjected her to physical and mental harassment for the past five years, including refusing to accept the two children as his own," the officer said.
"Sapna became pregnant for the third time in June, but her husband allegedly refused to accept the unborn child as his," he said, citing the complaint.
According to her complaint, on the night of August 10, Rakesh and Rita allegedly assaulted her while she was two months pregnant, causing serious injuries to her head, hands, legs and waist. She subsequently suffered a miscarriage and lost consciousness, the police said.
The woman alleged that her husband then left her unconscious and bleeding on a roadside in Gosai Bazar around 4 am and fled, they said.
Passersby informed Sapna's family, following which she was taken to Bhadohi district hospital for treatment, police said, adding that the woman alleged that her brother-in-law repeatedly threatened to kill her if she approached authorities.
Tyagi said Sapna approached him on August 11 with a complaint, following which the FIR was registered and necessary action ordered. Further investigation is underway.
