Uttarkashi news highlights: At least four people have died and several more are missing after a cloudburst triggered flash floods in the Dharali area of Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand on Tuesday. The torrent swept away houses, hotels and homestays in the village, which lies along the route to the Gangotri pilgrimage site.

Local officials said that numerous buildings have been damaged or completely washed away. A villager told the Press Trust of India that as many as 20 to 25 hotels and guesthouses may have been lost.
Uttarakhand’s chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami, called the destruction “extremely sad and distressing” and said he was in constant touch with senior officials. “Relief and rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing,” he posted on social media.
Uttarkashi cloudburst | What we know
- A massive cloudburst took place in the catchment area of Kheer Ganga in Uttarkashi's Dharali, triggering flash floods in the region.
- The raging waters have damaged and swept away several houses, hotels and homestays.
- Officials said that at least four people have died in the flash floods, news agency PTI reported.
- NDRF said that 3 of its teams have been dispatched to the cloudburst site, while two other teams are ready for airlift at Shastradhar airstrip.
- Meanwhile, ITBP said that a 16-member team from its force has arrived at the cloudburst to help with rescue operations. It added that another team from its 12th Battalion has also been rushed from Matli.
