Other celebrities who have agreed to join the campaign include actor Priyanka Chopra, former cricketer Virendra Sehwag and boxer Mary Kom.

The social media campaign was launched recently by Union women and child development (WCD) minister Maneka Gandhi to highlight the need for an equal opportunity to women in the field of education, health, nutrition, safety and dignity.

It is part of a series of events planned to coincide with the International Women’s Day on March 8.

“These celebrities will spread the message on gender equality on Twitter and Facebook. For instance, wrestler Sangram Singh has posted (on Twitter) with the message ‘Women Hain Toh Men Hai #We AreEqual,” a senior WCD ministry official said.
