Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik congratulated Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma on their marriage by rendering the couple’s image in a heart-shaped sculpture on sand recently. The internationally acclaimed artist has also completed a sand sculpture, portraying Orissa’s rich cultural heritage, at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, designed to enthral the cricketers as well as the fans during he India-Sri Lanka T20 match on Wednesday. Pattnaik was hired by the Orissa government to showcase the state’s rich heritage at the stadium. According to reports, the sand artist used 20 tonnes of sand from the Mahanadi river bed to create the sculpture.
“It is a happy moment for me as I created sand art for the very first time for any international cricket match in my home state. Earlier in 1999, I had created a sand art in England during the cricket World Cup,” Sudarsan was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
On Monday, Sudarsan finished a sand art to welcome both the Indian and Sri Lankan cricketers at the Bhubaneswar airport.
This is the first match of a three-tieT20 series between India and Sri Lanka. The remaining games will be played on in Indore and Mumbai on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
India will take to the field without three of their star players- Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan or Bhuvneshwar Kumar- with Rohit Sharma, who led the side to a 2-1 victory in the ODI series, continuing with the captaincy role.
