The wire snapped in the Indirapuram area, police said.

However, eyewitnesses said two people were killed and four injured.

Senior police and civil officials rushed to the site and the injured were being taken to hospital.

The entire city was plunged into darkness as many electricity poles fell, cutting off power. Many trees fell and a huge tree collapsed in front of the Collector's office here, injuring two people who were in a car.

Traffic was held up at many places in Ghaziabad.

The squall with winds up to 62 kmph, under influence of upper air cyclonic system stationed over North Rajasthan and Southern Punjab, struck at 1844 hrs and lasted for half-and-hour.
