Official sources said 10 persons, among the 41 whose blood serum samples were sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune, tested positive for Chikungunya.
Health department sources said over 1,000 people in 140 villages in the district were suspected to be suffering from Chikungunya, the worst affected areas being Tirupur, Pollachi and Thondamuthur.
Preventive measures, like mass fogging to prevent breeding of mosquito (aedes aegypti), which causes the fever, were being carried out, health department sources added.
