Twelve people, including some children, were buried alive and 16 others injured in five different landslides while one woman was electrocuted in Guwahati city last night following torrential rain.

Kamrup Deputy Commissioner Afsar Ali Hazarika said that 12 bodies had been so far recovered from five different parts of the city on Thursday morning, while the injured admitted to the Guwahati Medical college hospital.
Heavy rainfall since Wednesday evening led to landslides in Kamakhya hills, Santipur hills, Fatashil Ambari, Birubari, Pub Sarania and Noonmati areas and the victims were mostly daily labourers and temporary settlers residing in thatched houses in the foothills.
One 50-year-old woman Tarag Das was electrocuted during the heavy rain in the city, he said.
Hazarika said rescue and rehabilitation work was on in full swing and there was a possibility that some more bodies might be recovered from the debris.
He appealed to the people living in the hill side to vacate their homes and inform the district administration so that they could be housed in relief camps.
The district administration he said had announced an ex gratia of Rs 5000 to the families of those killed in the incident.
