“They beat up the boy with an iron pole after tying to mobile tower,” a police officer said.

Police and local sources claimed that the four men picked up the boy, Chand Khan, from his home on Sunday.

The boy’s body was found in a bush on the edge of a well at an abandoned colliery on Monday.

“The boy’s mother got the information on Sunday night that the body was lying on a field nearby. She lodged a complaint with us on Sunday night itself,” an officer at Hirapur police station told HT.

Police said that preliminary investigation suggested the boy was lynched. However, sources said the police would wait for a postmortem.
