Barring reserved category candidates, no candidate could get any branch of engineering at the HBTI, as all seats at the institute in the general category were filled up on the very first day of counselling. More than half the reserved seats were filled on the second day, on Tuesday. Consequently, on the third day, today, candidates had no option but to opt for private engineering colleges of the State.
For all the 1100 candidates that appeared on Tuesday, counselling continued till 5 AM on Wednesday. With the seats filled at HBTI and other premier institutes, only seven students opted for Pranveer Singh Institute of Technology, 21 for Maharana Pratap and nine for Kanpur Institute of Technology. These colleges hope that by the end of counseling, all seats would be taken.
At the HBTI, the Computer Science and Engineering section was the first department to get all seats filled within the ranks of 800. Then the Electrical Engineering department filled its seats also on the first day itself.
Seats at the Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Paint Technology, Bio –Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering Oil Technology, Plastic Technology Food Technology and the Leather Technology were filled in this order. But all seats were filled within the ranks of 5,000 on the very first day.
